Designing for the voices that are censored

This talk is based on my ongoing work where I am part of a team designing a content-sharing platform. It's currently used by millions of people to access the internet during censorship. Over the last one year, my team has been trying to shape the features that define how people use these contents. Our goal is to keep the platform decentralized while encouraging people to practice safe and positive internet behavior.

Designing features for decentralization requires an understanding of different demographics and their digital privacy. I will dive into what the platform enables so far and key areas that we are trying to address using a variety of UI patterns, technological solutions and behavioral psychology. I will also share my reflection on how some of these ideas can be implemented at a much wider scale with popular apps.
